JL Audio 10W3v3-4 Single 4 Ohm Voice Coil

A burned voice coil is the most common failure on your JL Audio 10W3v3-4 single 4 ohm subwoofer. Typically, this happens from a clipped amplifier signal, an enclosure that is too small, or excessive sustained heat. However, the rest of the subwoofer is usually still usable. As a result, rebuilding is often far more cost-effective than replacing the entire woofer.

This Single 4 Ohm Voice Coil is designed to restore the 10W3v3-4 back to proper working condition. Additionally, this same coil also fits the JL Audio 12W3v3-4.

4 Ohm vs 2 Ohm W3v3 Voice Coils

The single 4 ohm and single 2 ohm W3v3 models use different voice coils that are not interchangeable. Specifically, the single 4 ohm uses a 6-layer coil with a larger outer diameter, while the single 2 ohm uses a 4-layer coil with a smaller outer diameter.

As a result, this 4 ohm coil is physically too large to fit into the 2 ohm motor gap. Conversely, the 2 ohm coil will slide into the 4 ohm motor gap, but it will sit loose.

Confirm Your 10W3v3 Subwoofer Model

This coil is also not compatible with the first gen W3, W3v2, or any other JL Audio series. Before ordering, confirm your magnet sticker reads exactly 10W3v3-4.

Using the correct adhesives is critical for long-term reliability.

• BEP870 Black Epoxy — alternative to CA glue for the same bonds
• L3890 Thick Black Rubber Adhesive — for surround and dust cap installation

Installation Tips

First, dry-fit all parts and verify alignment before final bonding. In addition, meter the voice coil to confirm the impedance is correct before assembly.

Then use the proper adhesives for spider-to-voice-coil and cone bonding, and allow full cure time before applying power.
